Question / Help 4K Recording w/5820K@4.6GHz

Hey ! So I think I found the right settings !

Encoder x264
CBR Off
Quality Balance 9
Buffer Size 0
Bitrate set to 3 or 1 million or whatever :P
3840x2160@30fps
Veryfast Preset / High encoding Profile
CFR checked
crf=22
Encode in full range

My poor CPU almost died but the end result is pretty smooth with no big fps drop. Best settings for cinematics or movies because it's necessary to have OBS set to real time priority and it kills your fps in game. But it's still a good place to start :3
TIL: Don't even consider 4K recording with anything less than a 5820K / 5930K.. And a huge hard drive. After converting a 3min FLV video to avi the file was 118Gb and it takes a long time to compress and re-render.

/thread
(and thanks for helping) :)

umm, why did you use veryfast?
Because you're using crf based bitrate selection, switching the preset to ultrafast will cause the encoder to reduce cpu usage MASSIVELY at the cost of increased bitrate (instead of the normal "at the cost of picture quality" associated with fixed bitrate selections).

Why are you converting to an avi file? Just convert to .mp4 with a container change instead of re-encoding it. What's the filesize before the conversion to avi? I'd also recommend SuperFast or UltraFast, to fix what you said about "CPU almost died", and experimenting with higher CRF values until you notice quality going down.
