Question / Help 100% CPU usage with i7 4770k

So I'm trying to record extremely smooth CS:GO gameplay, but once I start my recording, my CPU usage jumps from 14% to 100%. I know recording is a huge stress on CPU but with an i7 4770k, I wouldn't expect it to eat up the entire thing. I'm recording at 720p 60fps. I don't know whats wrong! Am I underestimating the power OBS needs?

Are you using windows10?

I had the 4770k before. Was able to stream 1080p 30fps or 720 60fps with any game, also more demanding games than CS:GO. Thats like the 3rd best quadcore CPU on the market, only topped by 4790K and 6700K. You should not have any issues streaming at 720p 60FPS.

It is a local recording, which I understand is more stressful, but I think the most stress would be put on my HDD.

Local recording will (usually) use less CPU power and more of your HDD/SSD (what ever you set as your recording path).
For local recording, you can raise the bitrate and drop the preset to the fastest, will give you the same quality with bigger files but less CPU usage.
But like i said, your CPU is more than powerful enough to keep the stream/recording running with current settings and keep your game running with minimum 100FPS.
Veryfast preset is fine for streaming, where your bitrate is limited and you want to use your CPU to achieve better quality while using a low bitrate. You dont have to do this while recording - use the fastest preset and get the bitrate higher, 25000 would do great even with ultrafast. If you dont like the size - lower the bitrate. If you dont like the quality - increase the bitrate - but only when recording, not while streaming.

You also have something that is trying to hook the game - disable every overlay or capture software like Shadowplay.

So after doing some tests with these settings an such, I found that I can record 720p 60fps at 25000 bitrate while only using 30% of CPU, while also playing of course. Only when I bump it up to 1080p do I use my entire CPU. it seems a bit blurry to me when using 25000 bitrate on 720p, I don't know if its the bitrate or res, but how would I fix that?

Silly question: Could it be I play in windowed borderless? I don't think so case I've never had this problem
