Bug Report 0.51.01/0.52.04b dropping frames?

473 processed less frames than the current version. Some improvements were made, and now more (the proper amount of) frames are being processed/encoded, and as a result it's probably using up more of your network.

Even lowering preset to slow, it's extremely unlikely you get acceptable picture quality for 720p off only 1Mbps upload. Lowering preset helps to some degree, but it's not a miracle fix for really low upload speed.

edit: This is only part of the story, apparently. Frame drop code also changed in the new version, especially affecting people with lower bitrates.

Interesting, I didn't know that. That would explain it, though.

Well I will continue to use the 0.473, it's a shame I would love to take advantage of the evolution of the program.

What Krazy is saying is that OBS is not processing all of the frames in older versions, so your performance will still suffer, just differently.

Older versions of the app don't magically push through more frames than your bandwidth can handle. Either they (properly) get dropped in the newer code, or they (incorrectly) don't get processed at all in the old code.

I would still recommend you upgrade to the newer version of OBS and lower your bit rate so that it is not so close to your upload rate.

Hi there,

I am having stutter problems with the newest version.

I updated to the v0.521b (32bit) through auto updater and now I am experiencing consistent micro stutters in game. Small enough not to notice in stream, but big enough to impact the gameplay (racing)

I am streaming iRacing (64bit) and here is the log file from the recent stream session:

Jipatsu, you should make a new thread about that, since it is not related to this problem.

I understand really why you told me to use a recent version and lowered the quality of the video (bitrate), knowing that I have a better bitrate with the 0471 release, and from the time I redid a instalation clean my window in OBS so the problem is not vien here.

Re: 0.51.01/0.521b dropping frames?

I'm trying to say that you think 0.473 works compared to 0.521, but you only think that because 0.473 isn't telling you that it's not working. 0.473 doesn't work properly, and 0.521 does, so 0.521 reports that failure properly, and 0.473 doesn't. You want to continue using a broken version of the program just because it doesn't tell you that it's broken?

Hello!

I have exactly the same issue with the new OBS versions. All setting are the same and I experience a massive frame loss.
BUT the interesting thing is that in my case OBS loses frames when there is a high load of viewers on Twitch (like Dreamhack tour etc). When I stream in the mornings (GMT +8) it seems to be fine, with no drops.

I'm facing exactly same problem. I have downloaded OBS today & i have very little knowledge about it.

@jennifer thats because the twitch server is overloaded not because obs fucks up.
