YouTube Livestreaming in HDR

Hello,

Me and a fellow imaging technician have been trying to figure out how to stream in HDR to YouTube from our Apple Silicon Macs (M1 Max and M4 Pro respectively). It's been hard to find definitive information on the matter. Some say HDR isn't supported on Macs, but OBS still has all the option for it in the Mac version of OBS. We're using a Canon XF605 and BMD UltraStudio 4k Mini, and the image is showing just fine within OBS. Both support both PQ and HLG HDR modes. When we start streaming YouTube doesn't seem to recognize the HDR format or metadata.

This users is claiming to got it working, but reproducing all the step she mentions doesn't make our stream show up as HDR; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INkEezxxppU . This video itself shows up as HDR as well.

Does anyone know what's going on? Resources are very limited in this regard.

Any help would be appreciated!

We finally managed to make it work by using the YouTube integration within OBS instead of manually creating a Stream Key with specific settings. This seems to make use of the 'Variable Key' and auto-detects the metadata along with the video settings and somehow sets up the stream accordingly.

Thanks for filling in the little knowledge gap! It didn't even occur to me to mention it in my video, because I did it before trying to set up HDR on my Mac.

I made a little update video, for anyone else who might be struggling with the issue! ✨ https://youtu.be/XzRXz4CTEMk
