Hi everyone,
I'm known as Manaco around the interwebs and as a longtime internet user, I have turned into a cynic, experiencing many terrible support, non responsive support, days or even weeks of waiting before my issues are resolved. I have a superficial knowledge of technology and video programs, such as OBS.
I was trying to find a good program to record some local videos and possibly upload them on youtube or other sites. I turned to CamStudio, which was not effective when it came to longer videos. Then today, someone suggested I try OBS. I had never heard of OBS before today. Curious, I went ahead and downloaded the program.
I immediately jumped into it and tried to start recording with no luck at all. I turned to the forums and tried to read through guides and support threads. It wasn't long before I realized I understood virtually nothing of what everyone was saying. It was like an entirely foreign language, full of technobabble. Horrified, I thought I had no chance with OBS.
Then I saw the red box, "Community Chat", and thought, "Well that sounds like some awful, crappy support chat where nobody really know anything and pretends to help you like every other place I went to." It couldn't hurt to at least take a look inside the chat. Immediately I introduced myself and explained to the room what I just said above. I was quickly informed to read links, leading to guides and tips. I explained I wasn't able to understand most of it and only had very simple questions to ask. When they needed more information, they explained to me how to show them my logs in a very easy and effortless way. They immediately could tell what the problems were and directed me in many, many steps - but very clear and well-explained to an idiot like me.
In no more than ten minutes after entering the chat, I was able to go from "wtf is this sorcery of a program?" to "recording videos like a pro".
Thank you so much for your incredible, helpful, amazing, awesome, mind-opening help and giving me a pleasant and enjoyable experience. You guys are the best! And I mean that with the highest sincerity and praise possible. If I could, I would give every last one of you a big, bear hug and buy you doughnuts.
So should anyone else be in the same boat as me, don't be afraid or too cynical to think some live chat room won't be able to help you! When all fails and nothing on the forums can help you (or even make sense to you), turn to Community Chat!
