Question / Help xbox one kinect

Hi guys,

Iv got a xbox one kinect and would like to use it for recording video but OBS studio will not see the device :( FYI im using Windows 10

I have no idea if this would even present itself as a DirectShow device. Have you checked through the requirements on this page to make sure the verifier runs OK?

my laptop has the requirements for it, my laptop can see the device and "windows store apps" can see the kinect. OBS Studio will not see it as a recording devices but it can see the microphone

If it only has 32-bit DirectShow drivers then you'll only be able to add it as a video capture device in the 32-bit version of OBS.

i do have the 32-bit OBS, should i try the 64-bit

No. Are you able to use it as a webcam in any other program?

yer i can use it in a APP from the windows store called Kinect Record video

Okay, but what about third-party programs that would need a working DirectShow driver? For example can you access it in VLC?

No VLC can only see the microphone, on the video side it can only see the build in webcam :(

That would indicate that it isn't an OBS issue then, it sounds like there aren't any DirectShow drivers installed for the device. From a bit of Google searching it appears that the Xbox One version of the Kinect may not be usable as a webcam with programs like OBS.

In case anyone else stumbles across this, just know, it IS possible to use a kinet camera with OBS.
I've done it a few times before, however, certain circumstances made it so i ended up having to reinstall all of my programs and now it doesnt work again. Once I do figure out how to duplicate the steps that got it to work the first time I will share them. However, please dont think that the kinect is just unusable with OBS.
