Question / Help Would like to have some advice on settings.

Hi i recently started using obs and its a great app and farly easy to understand if you know a bit of the technical stuff.

However i do feel like my setup can be further improved with the things that i have but i'm not sure where to start.

Could you simply broadcast for a while, just doing your regular things in WoW and then post a VOD of that here? Just so we can all see...

Which filter are you using for the resolution downscale? Because with those settings and that hardware it could look a great deal better indeed.

Your stream actually looks quite smooth and clean. I noticed even when you are whipping the camera around a lot there's not much pixelation at all. As Kharay mentioned you could maybe look into using either the Bicubic or Lanczos downscale filter to preserve some more of the quality, but what you have looks pretty solid.

Actually, if I have to be brutally honest... the text is nigh unreadable and there is some severe pixelation going on at certain angles and on certain surfaces. Hence my question about the filter; changing the filter may solve some issues.

Anyhow, just toy around a bit with the different filters and it should improve.

Sorry was a bit buisy there :) i use the lanczos downscale already. but i was commented by someone else that the sound was buffering at him last night. not sure if it was a server upload issue last night (amsterdam server for twitch was lagging like helll/ down) so i have switched to mp3 192 khz.

and i run the game in 1920*1080 and downscale it 1:50 to 720p

ah and i got rid of all window capturing and screen capturing sources.
only use text, photo, video and game capture.

I'd stick with AAC 128. It's default for a good reason. Anyhow, if Lanczos looks like this, try Bicubic or even Bilinear. As I said, toy around a bit with the filters because I can't really come up with any other explanation why your stream looks the way it does. All I know is, when I installed the Starter Edition of WoW the other day (to help someone set up their WoW stream; by setting one up myself) I did not experience the odd distortion in the text we're seeing for you.

Nor the pixelation we're seeing as well at times. Something is odd about your configuration and I do feel it could look a great deal better indeed. You're on superior hardware to mine so it should be easier for you to get it looking just right. If all else fails I can reinstall the Starter and see if I can come up with the same configuration again, to share with you.

Reinstalling as we speak; I have an interesting if somewhat non-standard configuration for OBS that I want to try on WoW now. It looks awesome in everything else, it's even capable of making Minecraft look almost crystal clear (which is quite challenging, for some peculiar reason). And it actually does use 48 FPS. Nothing wrong with 48 FPS really.

Thanks for helping me out here, btw can stuff like this be caused by the for example the webcam?
i have a logitech 9000 pro but the drivers of it caused to crash my whole system and never gt any solution from them. So i had to revert to the windows drivers to make it stable again.

Well, after toying about a bit I can say this much -- It's the resolution downscale that's messing up the text. Can't get it to clear up; I don't have the pixelation though but the text is every bit as unreadable. Unfortunately this particular font apparently does not take too kindly to being downscaled.

I Game Capture it although there should be no difference in performance between Window and Game Capture, as long as you have Aero Enabled. But yeah, Game Capture. I noticed something; my default somewhat non-standard settings do work... if I run WoW in 1600 x 900. See, my default settings use a 1.25 downscale (since I prefer to play games in a 1600x900 window). If I do the same in WoW, the text looks a great deal better.

Implying that the downscale simply messes up the text... past a certain amount of downscaling. ie -- either run WoW in a 1600x900 window or stream it in its native resolution. Which might ... be challenging in and of itself. Since an MMORPG like WoW does like some FPS and streaming in 1080p at 60 FPS isn't necessarily a good idea. Although 48 may be acceptable. Going to try.

According to your testings, i think i have hit the sweet spot for my setup.

resi: 1920*1080
downscaled 1:25
Lanczos filter and 48 FPS

The font seems still to be readable. the stream is clean and even when throwing the cam around it seems that there is almost no pxilation (or how it's called :))

*edit*

but i still have to test it in a high speed situation like a battleground or raid.
