Question / Help Worrying install popup, window/gamecapture/monitor 2 nonfunctional.

Hiya folks.

So OBS has been acting wonky, and I was curious about what'd happen if I gave it a re-install. An error came up that told me it couldn't "open a file for writing", that file being OBS\plugins\GraphicsCapture\GraphicsCaptureHook.dll and the options were abort/retry/ignore. Ignore and the program installs. Issue never came up before, and I was still having trouble with my other captures before that.

Any attempts to record my second monitor, window capture, or game capture, result in a black screen.

As it stands, I'm just doing this to record little things, not stream.

The github log for is here: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/6e3d042f3bafad069a13

I've been able to make my monitor-2 work before, as well as game capture, but this is the first time I'd tried in a couple of weeks and I'm no longer able to. Not particularily sure what happened.

Out of curiosity, I decided to install OBS on my laptop. Installation went fine, without that error popup. Window and Game captures work. I then gave recording another attempt using purely default settings on my desktop, no change.

The error means that GraphicsCaptureHook.dll was already in use, either because you were running OBS, or the hook got "stuck" hooking a program, or your antivirus program started messing with it, etc. A simple reboot will usually fix it, if not disable your antivirus software and try again.

I actually did attempt a reboot once the first error showed up, as a precaution.

I... I then tried to disable my antivirus software, and got the same result. This time I will do both-- disable antivirus, and then restart with it still disabled and try the install.

Alrighty, it seems fixed now.

I deleted the one folder (with the graphicswhatever.dll in it) basically asap once the desktop showed up, reinstalled OBS with no hitches. Monitors were still funky, I had to end up tinkering around with it until it worked, and unfortunately I have no idea why it worked now compared to before tinkering with it because I didn't actually end up changing anything.

Game works, window as well, although every now and then I have to cancel preview and start it up again with any of these because it'd be this black screen that's kind of hard to find the reason for.
