This topic might be confusing because the word "overlay" means a different thing than usual, in regards to this question. Therefore, I'm going to use "Video Overlay" in quotation marks in order to distinguish this from a normal video overlay made by OBS.
In short, the activities of a certain program I use can't seem to be captured by normal means. I'm using a program from 2000, for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2k that I've managed to hack into working on Windows 10. The program is called Drempels, and what it does is use a "Video Overlay" to make a certain color on the display transparent, then run an animated desktop underneath that. The problem I'm having is that OBS cannot seem to capture the animated background that Drempels generates.
The "Video Overlay" is a depreciated (but crucially, still functional) feature of Windows computers, and must be turned on via editing the registry, on a per-program basis. Because of this, I'm thinking that OBS might not even know that it's something captureable! Understandable, but inconvenient for me.
A log file for y'all, should you need it. Other than looking at my laptop's embarrassing stats, I don't think it will prove much use for this particular issue, unless I'm missing something major.
