Question / Help Windows 10 using OBS and any game goes to 100% cpu usage

Hi there,

Very weird problem, I upgraded to Windows 10 and didn't change anything. Now, when I stream (I use OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and mainly stream CS:GO) my cpu will go to 100% which means that the game lags on OBS, but is fine for me. So my viewers see lag, and I do not. It also causes various other issues to do with plugins on the OBS program.

Idle my CPU is on around 1-10%, putting on OBS, it will fluctuate between, 10-39% and then when I play CS:GO or any other game, it goes up to 95-100% cpu and doesn't drop lower. This is for even on games where they are less CPU dependent. (For reference though, CS:GO goes to roughly 60-70% CPU usage when not running OBS)

I have updated all drivers possible and done everything I feel I can. I am now stuck! It was never the case this would happen on Windows 8.1, even when I was using higher settings than I do now (i reduced settings on OBS to see if it helped).

My Specs:

  • CPU: Intel i5 3570k @ 4ghz
  • MOBO: Asus Sabertooth Z77
  • GFX: EVGA GTX 970 4GB SSC
  • SSD: Crucial M4 250GB x 2
  • MONITORS: BenQ XL2411T & ASUS VE247H
  • KEYBOARD: Corsair K95 Vengeance
  • MOUSE: Zowie FK1
  • HEADSET: SteelSeries Siberia v2 WHITE
I hope someone can help!

Thanks in advance.

Hey!

I have the same problem. Since I update to Windows 10 I can't start a good stream with OBS. The program always say "High CPU encoding usage" in red but I'm not using something really high. After Windows 10 I stream in 1080p easy.

My specs:
Inte i5 3330 @3.2GHz
6GB RAM
GeForce GTX 960
