Question / Help Windows 10 USB webcam fails when laptop Iid is closed

I know this is an edge case, but I'm building an all weather live streaming box using a webcam and a laptop. I've changed all of the settings so the laptop remains on when the lid is closed.

When the laptop lid is closed the webcam freezes but the stream contines. I can VNC into the machine and it's fully functional, but the webcam deactivates.

I tried changing the USB hub settings to not be power managed but this hasn't fixed it.

How do people who use docked laptops and external webcams stream using OBS?

I know this is an edge case but any help would be greatly appreciated.

A docked machine could still have a display available. A laptop with the lid closed, without an external display, doesn't. Maybe that's the issue? Maybe a video dongle would work?

I ran some tests on an old Window 10 laptop with the lid closed and it kept the webcam alive and streaming when the lid was closed.

I think it could be a bootcamp issue as the laptop is a Mac running bootcamp.
