Window Share hasn’t been working since the latest update in December 2025.

I’m not the best at using OBS, but I’m far from the worst. Window Share in OBS can fail for various reasons, often showing up as a black screen, a blank source, or a window that won’t update. This started after I updated to the latest version of OBS in December 2025. I never had an issue before, but since then, I’ve reinstalled it many times without success.

This usually happens when OBS lacks the right permissions, the captured program runs on a different GPU, or the application uses hardware acceleration that prevents OBS from hooking into it. Apps like Chrome, Edge, and Discord have all stopped working since then.

A fast way to troubleshoot is to run OBS as an administrator, and I made sure both OBS and the target application are using the same graphics processor. Disabling hardware acceleration in the app did not restore proper functionality, especially for browsers. None of those steps worked, and I already tried using YouTube videos and online resources for help. I need assistance from this platform to restore the Windows Share for smooth streaming.

I don’t want to use display capture, as I can even install the previous version of OBS, which now has the same problem.

OBS Studio creates a log file each time you run it which contains very useful diagnostic information. Without a log file, it's much harder for any support volunteers to figure out problems and your post may be ignored.

To upload a log file, go to the Help menu > Log Files > Upload Last Log File. "Last Log File" is for the last session (the last time you ran OBS). In some cases you may be asked to select "Current Log File" instead, which is for the current session.

Click on the "Copy URL" button to copy the link to your clipboard, then paste the link in your forum...
