They're about the same, unless you're on Win7 where monitor capture is horrible and slow and should be avoided at all costs.
Really, the capture step is very low CPU. Almost negligible. The part that's weighty is the video encoding step. This is why a capture card does nothing for a 1PC setup (and can actually harm performance), despite Avermedia's snake oil marketing.
