Window Capture no longer working

Hi,

I haven't streamed since February, and between then and now, I switched my motherboard on my computer because the WiFi chip in the old motherboard failed.

My previous motherboard: GigaByte B450M DS3H WiFi v2

My new (current) motherboard: MSI B550M Pro-VDH WiFi

However, when I open OBS now, my scenes/transitions appear laggy, and when I try to add a new Window Capture (or Browser Source), nothing appears.

I tried updating to Linux Mint 22.3, updating all the packages, updating UEFI/bios, creating a new scene collection, and reinstalling OBS, but the problem persists.

Here is my system information:

For one thing: Your NVIDIA driver isn't loaded:
Device-1: NVIDIA GA106 [GeForce RTX 3060] vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: N/A
Thus OpenGL is using software (LLVM pipeline) to render. This will _definitely_ make things slow. I got this from your log:
17:49:46.807: Initializing OpenGL...
17:49:46.951: Unable to open DRM render node.
17:49:46.951: Loading up OpenGL on adapter Mesa llvmpipe (LLVM 21.1.8, 256 bits)
17:49:46.951: OpenGL loaded successfully, version 4.5 (Core Profile) Mesa 26.0.5 (git-e4bd78e80a), shading language 4.50

So you need to install an NVIDIA driver at least.

That said - I would have thought that capture would work in software; but you are getting OpenGL errors in the log, so perhaps there has been a regression somewhere. None the less, if you get the NVIDIA driver working, that should take care of it.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I managed to get my computer to use my GPU elsewhere by adding a nvidia_drm.fbdev=1 kernel parameter and disabling secure boot. However, it seems like OBS is still not recognizing my GPU.

I forgot to mention in my initial post, but I did try changing my driver from nvidia-driver-595-open (recommended) to nvidia-driver-580-open, but the problem persisted. After seeing your reply and disabling secure boot, I tried switching back to the recommended driver but the problem persists.

Attached is my recent OBS log.

Interesting! Definitely seems like something is off with respect to the NVIDIA drivers.

1. You might want to check the logs in `/var/log/apt` to check that it installed successfully?
2. I'd probably check `dmesg` for errors and also have a look at `eglinfo - B` to see if the NVIDIA device is at least recognised outside of OBS.

There are also the NVIDIA forums and Mint forums, too - maybe reach out to a few places and see what comes back? This might not be an OBS-only problem.

Thank you for the suggestions. The driver appears to have been installed correctly from the logs.

I've attached the outputs from `dmesg` and `eglinfo -B` - the later of which has given me errors. I will also be posting about this on the NVIDIA and Mint forums as well (thank you for suggesting this!)

Hello,

I wanted to update to announce that I managed to solve this issue. I uninstalled the flatpak version of OBS. Then, I tried installing the Mint System Package version of OBS and noticed it was able to pick up my GPU without issue. Then, when I uninstalled that and reinstalled the flatpak version of OBS, it was able to pick up my GPU just fine.
