Question / Help Window capture is deep purple; can't disable hardware accel, or GPU processing, but it worked before

Here's the deal. I'm trying to window capture my Roxio Game Capture's preview window. I'm on a new laptop and this worked at first, but I guess my graphics card (NVidia GeForce 840M) had a driver update or Windows 8.1 had an update and it stopped working. Now when I try to capture the window, I get a deep purple box where the video should be. Taking a screenshot also results in the same purple box.

Now, I know this is a common problem with a few proposed solutions:
-Make sure OBS and Roxio are using the same graphics card. - Done.
-Turn off hardware acceleration - Can't do this on Windows 8.1 / my graphics card as far as I can tell
-Switch to software encoding - Can't do this either as far as I can tell.
-Use monitor capture - Same result.
-Open a media player first to "use up" the buffer and force Roxio not to display in that way. - Didn't work.

All drivers and programs are up to date and so is Windows 8.1.

Help?
