Question / Help Window Capture captures the whole screen, 19.0.3

Using Windows 10
Every time I try to capture and record a window, the output records the whole screen. The window region is shown but the rest of the screen is black. The end result is the recorded window surrounded by a black background which is my screen (2560x1080). The application being recorded doesn't matter. The same thing happens with trying to capture a section of the screen with cropping.

Every thing I found regarding this talks about/shows what appear to be advanced settings of the older version where there were options such as recording the inner or outer region of a window. This version is very basic. there are no real options when it comes to choosing a window capture. There is only Window title, Windows Match Priority, Capture Cursor and Multi-Adapter Compatibility. There doesn't seem to be any 'advanced' version of OBS or mode. I cannot find any settings related to window capture in the general settings either.

How big is your canvas size compared to the DOS game you're capturing? It looks like you just have a much bigger canvas than your source material. Maybe post a log file, instructions are stickied at the top of the forum.

So you have a giant canvas and the source content doesn't fit. Either expand the window capture source and then fill in the empty areas with other content (images, chat, notifications, etc.) or shrink your canvas size to match the game size.

So OBS cannot record only windows to a specific video resolution or is that the canvas size? Is there a way to put in custom canvas sizes?

Setting to 1280x720 did seem to work ok.

OBS records at whatever canvas size you specify. You can manually type in any canvas size you want if it isn't listed in the dropdown (populated based on your display's native resolution).
