Why is there an 8 second delay from OBS to the streaming site I use?

Hey there,

I am using OBS to stream to MixCloud for a work project, but there is an 8 second delay. I've gone into the advanced settings and deselected the anything to do with a delay, but we're still seeing the delay? Any help would be great.

To be fair, it's about impossible to get an extremely low delay.
Check your internet upload speed and avoid making an overly high resolution when streaming.
I don't really know about streaming, and to other people, I would say "post a log" but delay isn't my main, but just wanted to say that.

Because livestreaming is not a peer-to-peer VoIP call. Lots more infrastructure involved. There's transmission, replication, and propagation delay, as well as buffering playback chunks on the viewer end.

To add to FerretBomb's answers
- most streaming providers accept H.264 input as doing so avoids H.265's legal minefield
- BUT, that isn't bandwidth efficient for distribution, so most CDN will re-encode to a more efficient codec, then replicate, etc
and speed of light isn't all that fast (and network data transmission speed about 1/100 of that)
