Why Is OBS Recording Google Meet Calls Causing My MacBook to Throttle?

Hi everyone,
I’m not sure if this is an OBS-specific question or more about my Mac, but hopefully someone here can help.
At work, I often need to record Google Meet calls. On my Windows machine, I always used OBS for this, and it worked flawlessly. However, I’ve experienced issues on my Macs.
Previously, on my 2018 MacBook Pro, recording calls with OBS would cause the laptop to lag after a while, and I’d notice a significant drop in CPU clock speed. It seemed like the hardware was under so much load that the system started throttling itself. I figured this might just be due to the older hardware.
Recently, I got a new MacBook Air 15" with the M3 chip, thinking this would solve the problem because I’m not doing anything intensive. But the exact same thing happens: I join a Google Meet call (with camera on), run OBS in the background to record (using the H.264 hardware encoder), and after some time, the system starts to lag again.
Why is this happening? These aren't demanding tasks—I’m just recording a video call, not playing modern games or training AI models! Is there a way to optimize OBS on Mac to avoid this lag and throttling? Or is there something I’m missing about how OBS or MacOS handles these workloads? Any advice or insights would be much appreciated!
