Why is obs not compatible with the hdpvr2?

not complaining about, i am just asking
if you don't give me an answer that is cool, i don't really know much about programing, and its pretty amazing that this software is "free" as it is. i just want to know why? (Elgato and Avermedia seem to work fine with obs from what i heard.)

like i said i am not complaining i just want to know what is the difference between those capture cards that can be use on obs and those that can't...

HD PVR, HD PVR 2, roxio, etc, require decoding. Their signal is encoded, and this means you have to put in decoders and things to get them working properly.

I actually do have an HD PVR 2, and I know how to get it working, but I have been knee-deep in the refactor code and need to finish it (which includes HD PVR stuff). I can't really put it in the current code base because it would sort of be a waste of time because the code base will be replaced. It -will- eventually be working, however.

To sum it up, it's my fault, but I will put it in.

just another question, will you implement the hdpvr2 support when OBS is out of "beta" is that what you are waiting for?

sorry for bumping old thread, but did't want to make a new one.

I dont have a fixed ETA but to quote jim "i want to release a version that doesnt explode this year".
Which obviously might not be suitable for professional use yet, at least thats my guess.

Support will be available after the current rewrite of OBS is complete.
do you happen to know when will that be? or a "date"? 5 months - 8 months?

Sometime between now and the heat death of the universe.
