Question / Help Why doesn´t OBS send the audio from a video file, just as it sends the video itself

I am just wondering what the reason is. ... as it doesnt make any sense to me.

i found a very strange way to achieve the audio going through.

here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wgu4DfVhzr0

... but WHY is it not possible to just start the video file and the audio goes with it?

i dont know, if this is just realated to having OBS going to Zoom.

would be glad to get an answer a layperson can understand - thank you!

OBS is not designed to be a virtual camera application. The obs-virtualcam plugin is an addon that allows it to work for things like Zoom, but OBS was never meant for use over that kind of groupchat application. It's meant to be an RTMP streaming program for services like Twitch, Youtube, et al.

To send along the audio, you'll need to use a program like VBAudio or Voicemeeter to capture the OBS sound, as the virtualcam plugin doesn't do that (for a few reasons; some technical, some functional).
When playing video clips, OBS does not by default play the audio back to avoid looping the audio on the outbound RTMP stream in its primary use-case. You can set the video clip in the Advanced Audio Propeties menu (click a cog in the mixer panel) to Monitor Only, and have your Monitoring device set to the Desktop output. Then VBAudio/Voicemeeter will be able to capture and send it over the virtual audio device, configured in Zoom.

Short version, OBS was never intended to be used with Zoom. That hasn't stopped people from using a screwdriver to hammer in nails, but there will be some side-effects.

not in a language, that i as a layperson can fully understand, but the keypoints came across! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME! :-)
