Why does my audio sound like this?

I tried to uninstall obs but I think it's some sort of saved setting I must have. I don't know. I even got a brand-new mic. Which is a hyperX mic. Still doesn't work. Would I need to get a new computer part entirely?

I have music playing and it keeps fading in and out, I can also hear my fan in the background when i tried to fix it so many times but fliters make my audio worse. (Around 40 mins in you can hear the music breaking also my boyfriend is talking in the background sorry)

Do you have a Noise Suppressor? Probably as a filter in OBS, or in Windows' audio settings. Those are designed for spoken voice only. Anything else is considered noise to be removed. Lots of people have run music through them and wondered what happened to the instruments. Likewise for game sound effects. It's just doing what it's designed to do, which is to isolate a spoken voice and kill everything else.

Windows itself has one by default, because it's mostly sold to business people who don't understand acoustics and want their conferences to work, and to casual home users who don't understand acoustics and want their video calls with friends and family to work. And that setting is buried so that the slightly more nosy of those groups don't accidentally disable it and then complain that Microsoft broke their computer.

See if you can find it and decipher what MS decided to call it, along with any other "enhancements" you might have. Your goal is a "dumb wire" from the raw mic all the way through Windows' audio to OBS. I don't have a Windows box anymore, so I can't give you screenshots and step-by-step. Sorry.

When you uninstalled OBS did you tick the "Remove Profiles / Scenes"
Otherwise your filters will remain persistent with each reinstall.

You can go FILE > Settings > Show Settings Folder and delete everything you can in there (log file will be in use) to start from scratch.

In terms of audio quality, simply put...
The mic itself is only as good as your ambient room noise
The more room noise you have, the harsher background removal filter will have to work
The more filters you use / harsher the filter settings are the less natural your audio will sound

Always start by minimising as much ambient room noise as possible first before you do anything, I only have 4 filters
Background noise removal (minimally set, only really used for PC fan hum as PC is on desk)
Noise Gate
Compressor
Expander

EQ can help provide warmth to a voice but in honesty it isn't needed.
Less is more in terms of filters.
