Why can’t I make this work??

I am beyond frustrated. I’ve been trying to connect cameras via RTSP, but no matter what I do, it will not work. I am plugging in the addresses as indicated, but I must be missing something. Currently I’m trying to connect through Reolink Client. I watch the how-to videos on YouTube but what is shown looks NOTHING like what I have on my desktop Mac. Is it the Windows version they are showing or has the program been totally overhauled?

I don’t really know much about computers or how to configure things. It seems to me that connecting a camera to an app should not be this complicated. I feel like I need to get a degree in computer programming before I can understand… except so much of the talk goes over my head. It’s like a foreign language to me.

Please explain to me, in plain English, in layman’s terms, how to make this stupid thing work. All I want to do is livestream on YouTube but it appears to be impossible. How does everyone else do it?

Are you saying you don't see any video through even the Reolink Client? Once you get the initial setup (IP, authentication) done using the vendor's app, you should be able to *directly* request RTSP streams from the devices using your preferred software (no more need for 'Reolink Client').

Are you entering the "rtsp://my.cam.ip.addr/1" info into a new Media Source source in OBS (something like this)?

I can see the camera in Reolink Client. I’ve been putting in the address as they have listed (with the info as needed), but nothing is coming up on OBS. Maybe there’s something I’m not clicking on? Where is the video supposed to be visible? Isn’t it in the main window? I can do window mirroring and I can get a direct feed from the web, but I can’t get the Wi-Fi cameras to connect.

This is what they list for an address:
rtsp://(user name):(password)@(ip address):554/h264Preview_01_main

The guy in the video is talking about Ethernet connection. Does this mean I need to hardwire? Does it not work over wifi?

So, you're putting that into OBS media source and nothing comes up, and from the same computer you can reach the camera using a web browser? It's probably not a network issue. You can use VLC to confirm that the rtsp from the camera actually is working. Just put the correct URL in here:

I tested some IP cams a few days ago with rtsp in OBS and everything worked fine. You're probably "almost there". :-)
