Question / Help Why am I using more kb/s than what my max setting is set to?

I am using OBS and I set my max bitrate to 1500 kb/s. But on the bottom right of OBS it's hovering around 2500-3000 kb/s. I did a 3 hour stream the other day and it used almost 10GB of data. Am I doing something wrong or does the bottom right corner have nothing to do with bitrate or whatever?

Post a logfile from the Help menu. Just Upload and paste the link here.

The max is not a hard maximum, just a target rate. It shouldn't double though unless something else is set incorrectly.

Remove the custom buffer size. Why did you put one in? Zero says 'ignore the set bitrate, use whatever you need' and is mostly only ever used for local recording only.

With an i3 I'd also recommend downscaling to 360p or 480p at most, 30fps, and the x264 Veryfast preset. Ultrafast looks terrible. 1500kbps is also the bare minimum for 720p with VF on, which an i3 isn't going to be able to handle.

Ok thanks for your input! I had it at zero because of a local recording, I didn't know it could affect my stream. I appreciate the help and thanks again.
