Question / Help Which deinterlace mode to use?

Here's the deal:

I'm wanting to record some PlayStation 2 footage using my Elgato Game Capture HD, using OBS so I can correct overscan issues. However, Unlike Elgato' software which has a 1-click deinterlace feature, OBS gives me a list of deinterlacing methods.

Which one of these would be best for recording the PlayStation 2? (signal is Component Video 720x480 interlaced 59.94hz, widescreen aspect ratio)

Try Yadif.

If you really want to know the difference between all of those options, I'm sure there is a page somewhere that can be Googled that tells you what each of them do, but they are all for deinterlacing. You probably don't want to use Blend, Field Discard, or Retro/Scan Doubling.

Yeah, I spent hours researching before I posted. Couldn't really find a solid answer. Closest I have came is a 3 year old tutorial using other software from before deinterlacing was even added to OBS. In fact, there seems to be no documentation on OBS's deinterlace features whatsoever - I even searched through notes on Github. I can't even find what release it was added in.

As for the types, yeah I looked it up for quite a while as well. The thing that makes it a tough decision is that most of the info I read says the type selected is often determined by the interlacing method used by the source signal (In this case, a playstation 2). And although I can learn all about the types, I still have no idea what method a PS2 uses to interlace. So yeah, I figured I'd post here hoping another user has used the feature, surely I can't be the only one in the world trying to figure out the best method to do this...

Thanks for the info! I'll try to avoid the types you said don't use, it correlates with my research so far too. Guess I'll record in different modes and do some old fashioned eyeball comparison. ;)

That is really the best way to do it, in all honesty. Just choose whichever you think looks best.
