When recording my screen, when I start speaking, the initial sound of the first word is chopped

I have a laptop running Windows 10. I am recording a program I am using on my screen and explaining what I am doing e.g "Click on the Start Menu". However, when I watch the recording, instead of hearing "Click on the Start Menu", I get "ick on the Strart Menu". This happens on every sentence where there is a pause before I start speaking.

I think this due to noise reduction. When there is no sound, the mic is not recording, and starts recording when I speak but the delay causes the initial sound of the first word to be lost.

Does anyone know where the setting is to turn this feature off?

Just to be sure, you haven't added any audio filters to your audio source, correct?

Windows settings -> system -> sound -> Sound Control Panel. Click on the recording tab, and open your microphone's properties. See if you have an option enabled for "noise suppression", and turn it off if so.

It would also help if you included a log file.

I realize this is an ancient thread, but I had the same problem and this is the only related thread Google would show me. So, for those also seeking help with this issue, I found a solution, or at least one that worked for me.

The sounds being cut off at the start of sentences were due to the noise suppression filter. I turned it off, and everything was fine, but I went back to having the background noise that made me install it in the first place, so that was no good. I messed with all the settings I could think of for days to work around it until I remembered someone, somewhere, had mentioned something about sound going through all the filters like they were in a line. So, I moved the noise suppression filter to the top of the list, and everything worked great.

I kept testing, and discovered that I simply had to move the noise suppression filter above the noise gate rather than under it to eliminate the problem. In my case, for example, I went from:

Compressor
Gain
Limiter
Noise Gate
Noise Suppression
VST 2.x Plug-in

to

Compressor
Gain
Limiter
Noise Suppression
Noise Gate
VST 2.x Plug-in

Since there are other filters, and lots of plug-ins that can potentially be installed, I have no idea if the noise gate is the only filter that can create this issue. But play with your filter order and hopefully you'll also be able to fix the problem.
