Question / Help When recording, mic level is always up.

Hello. I seem to have a problem with OBS. Whenever I record or preview, there isa small level, which on playback, is static. When I mute my mic and such there is still static there. When I try the levels, whenever the mic level is high enough to be picked up, it still has static.
 
I'm confused, you get static while streaming? Just on the stream/recording, or in your speakers/headset?

I only get static when streaming/recording. There is no static for TS3, Skype, and other voips.
 
Again, does this come out of just the stream, or your headset/speakers as well? Could you post a vod? And a log? This can happen sometimes with OBS simply because OBS activates many more devices than most other programs. Encoding, graphics, sound capture from multiple devices, video device capture. All these things combined can sometimes cause interference to come through where it otherwise wouldn't.

There are a number of ways to fix/reduce the issue:
  • Reduce webcam resolution. This has been known to help (reduces motherboard bandwidth usage)
  • Changing the ports of your USB device(s) has also been known to help
  • Turning down encoder settings has helped in rare circumstances

Only from the stream, cannot hear it unless video is played back. How do I get a log file? I don't have a webcam, changing usb doesn't help, and encoding I havn't changed since it last worked.

could you try setting your x264 CPU preset to veryfast, and see if that affects anything?
 
Well I was referring to the static. Background noise isn't uncommon for mics otherwise.
 
I have this same exact problem and because of it I got a new mic and switched from a computer USB port to a USB converter straight from the outlet and it about reduced the static from being half of the bar that picks up your voice to being a quarter of it. I even shut windows and turned fans off and everything, my room was silent but the noise was still there
