Question / Help What is the point the "Record from Replay Buffer" hotkey?

It does the exact same thing as "Save Replay Buffer" right? If you have a 10 minute replay buffer going and you hit whatever key you assigned to "Save Replay Buffer" it will save a 10 minute video and if you press whatever key you have assigned to "Record from Replay Buffer" it will start recording and the second it does it will already be a 10 minute video because it slaps the replay buffer in the front of everything.

Yes, I know, if you do this you can stop the replay buffer and continue to record a video with everything from the replay buffer in the front of the actual recording. But if you are going to record in the long run and not use the replay buffer for what it is supposed to be used for why not just record from the start?

And actually, what is the point of having the option to start recording and start the replay buffer? If you do this you are recording a live video of what you are doing while at the same time storing a so-to-say shadow recording of what you are doing in your RAM (I think it's RAM right?). There is no point in storing a shadow recording when you are recording a live video.

For example, if something happens, and you notice the replay buffer might not be long enough to catch it fully, you hit record from replay buffer and can finish whatever you want to do without a hassle, after your done, you can stop recording and go back to the replay buffer usage.

I guess that could be a use but at the same time if something happened that isn't able to be recorded in the (max of 30 minutes) replay buffer then honestly, isn't it the person to be put to blame and not the replay buffer? I say a good Replay Buffer Length is 5 minutes, so if someone has theirs at like 1 minute or 30 seconds and something happens and it lasts longer than 30 seconds to a minute then they are at fault for not putting it at a longer, more reasonable time. Honestly putting it at the 30 minute max should be a no-brainer because OBS has such tiny file sizes.

Like for instance, what if you're playing DayZ and you and your buddies get into a huge, long range fire fight at one of the airfields. Those kinda things could last for possibly an hour or more depending on the situation. There is no reason to have the buffer going because you have no idea how long it will last, yes, you can use the record from buffer feature if you notice it is lasting longer than your set time but in a tense situation like that where taking your eyes off of the action for even a few seconds could matter simply starting a recording at the beginning of the event would be much easier. But of course, if you still wish to use the replay buffer just set it to 30 minutes and risk checking the replay buffer time during battle.

So basically, set the Replay Buffer Length to 30 minutes and risk it or save yourself the hassle and start recording.

For example with the settings I normally use for youtube, a buffer of even 5 minutes already eats my ram more or less (yea I dont have 16gb ram, only 8). Also putting the replay buffer to 30 minutes at all times also seems kinda dumb to me. I personally want to use the replay buffer for short things, like an awesome kill streak in BF4 or something. So I dont have to record me playing 5 hours of BF4 and then searching through that 5 hour video. But if I then notice, oh, the streak goes on and on, the enemies fall like flies, I might want to start a recording (including the current buffer) until I finally die. (which for me is pressing f5 real quick which I can do without taking my eyes of the battlefield and for example while my gun reloads anyway)

So I am not totally sure why it bothers you. If you dont like the hotkey, dont use it.
