Whats a good capture card that i can get? Im looking to use my Laptop as my streaming machine and my main pc as the gaming rig.

Im not really sure what external capture card I should get. Im looking to stream 720p 60fps. Also not sure if this is in the right section or not but i posted it here because il be using the multi platform obs.

Iv been researching but the reviews are mixed and im not sure which one will work best with obs. Since im using a laptop i need one that would connect via usb or something like that.

thanks.

You might be better off asking this question on the twitch subreddit, this forum is for asking about specific issues with OBS.

Just for your reference though the list of supported capture cards is kept here:

https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/list-with-supported-capture-cards.5655/

I'm currently using an Elgato card but have used both Roxio and Avermedia and all work great with OBS MP, it often comes down to budget and what you are trying to stream/record and the subreddit will have more opinions on that :-)

Yea everything i read people say that elgato has delay and then they have to sync up the audio or some bs. But checked my device manager and it says

Intel usb 3.0 eXtensible host controller - 1.0(microsoft)

I figured Id use this laptop for a streaming pc it has an i7 5700HQ processor 12GB ram and 960M instead of building a new rig. I think it should handle it just fine.

I was looking at the x capture 1 but i guess it requires a diff 3.0 controller so it wont work?

The AverMedia Game Capture HD II (C285) is not supported. It only runs stand alone and does not connect to a computer.

Startech USB3HDCAP is another one.

I have 2 Startech USB3HDCAP:

Pros:
a) You can connect more than one capturers
b) It supports composite, s-video, vga, dvi and hdmi inputs

Cons:
I can't make the audio capture work in OBS Studio, but thanks to obs studio audio configuration it works like a charm connecting audio to the sound card of PC with a delay of 300ms

Yes, your computer has a good USB 3.0 controller. But that won't remove the Elgato HD60's delay. It still only communicates using USB 2.0. Personally I switched from the Elgato HD to the Avermedia Extreme. Very happy with the result.

Well i just got the avermedia live gamer extreme how do you set it up? Since i will be gaming on a 144hz im not using the pass through. I just have the hdmi from my graphic card to the LGX and then the usb going from that to my laptop.

Now im running an obs instance on my pc and using the full projector preview and send the image to the capture card and it all works good but for some reason the image on my laptop obs is zoomed in like i can see the lines of the image.. seems like the resolution is not right.

On my pc obs the image is 1080p and clear and the card captures that but then on the laptop obs for some reason its super zoomed it and i have no idea how to change it. I just learned i also need to have the recentral running for the card to work even when using obs.

but while i mess around and try to figure this out maybe someone knows how to fix this, let me know please.

On streaming laptop pc, make sure the base resolution is at 1920x1080, and maybe downscale.
On gaming pc running obs projector, make sure "encode while previewing" is turned off.

A log file from your streaming pc may help if you still have problems.

Got it figured out, had to change resolution from default to custom and select 1080p now its nice. Also where is encode while preview option? Where do i turn that off iv looked around but did not see it in the options.

Next I have to try and get the audio to work... ahh

I disabled the preview on the gaming pc is that what you mean by encode while previewing? Because when i disable the preview on the gaming pc it still projects it over to the laptop so I will just have it disabled but is that the same thing as the encoding?
