Question / Help What CPU to record well?

I was planning on getting the Intel i-7 processor or CPU to record and edit videos at hopefully 720p and mabye even 1080p but when I went to the steam forums it seemed people recommended the Ryzen 1700, it seems nice, but how new is it, and is it worth it? I'm confused and don't know much about cores and processors..... Help?

Is this the right place to post this?

I own that processor and recommend it without any shred of doubt. Just make sure you update your bios and check the recommended DDR4 Ram models from the lists provided on your motherboard manufacturer's website.

For reference, I usually record/stream video at 720p/60fps on the "fast" preset without any problems, except for some minor issues with latest OBS that are unrelated to the processor itself.

Can you please be more specific? No offense just that I mentioned the i-7 and Ryzen 1700, but also I want it to last at least 5 years, will it last that long? Thanks!

Sorry for not being clear.

I was referring to the Ryzen 7 1700. Given Intel's current offerings and the fact the AMD chip is an 8 core/16 thread CPU for an awesome price-point, it should last you for quite a while, even at stock speeds.

If you like to overclock and invest on better cooling, you can push the chip to 3.7GHz comfortably on all cores, with some hitting as high as 4GHz.

Most of the launch issues have been resolved through bios updates, such as RAM compatibility, but I still recommend checking their listings.

Nice! Mind if I link my YouTube channel? I would love you to see the progress I make with this ground breaking CPU *groundbreaking not for the world but for me and my YouTube channel, lol* Thanks ALOT! And the Ryzen 17k seems good now! I will be going to microcenter most likely to get it, do I need a new motherboard as well? Or would I be fine with what I have, and any last tips before I buy a 300$ CPU? Lol.

Sure! I'll watch it.

Assuming the rest of your components are fairly modern and your power supply is up to snuff, you'll need a B350 or X370 motherboard and 2x8GB DDR4 Memory Module kit (ideal for most common use case scenario).

EDIT: is 430 watts enough?

That depends on the rest of your setup, namely which graphics card you own, and the quality of the components of your power supply.

Seasonic makes the most reliable power supplies I've ever used, if you need to buy one.

I have a RX 480 as my GPU and 8GB of RAM, should I add more details or is that enough?

Personally, since it seems you're trying to buy a system that will last you for a long time but don't want to spend too much money, I'd get a Seasonic S12II, either the 520w or 620w model since they are excellent power supplies with good warranty and the power draw of your new system will sit comfortably around their peak efficiency levels, at load.
