Question / Help What are best record settings for me?

Hello guys! I'm new here and I need your help for best settings for recording.

I have Intel I5-6400, 8 gb ram and Nvidia 1050 GTX

I don't need OBS for streaming I just need good quality recording. The problem is when I record games I notice that I get fps drops frequently. Doesn't happen always but most of the time when I rewatch video that I recorded I can see how image is slowing at some point and fps is dropping away.

I have no Idea how CRF number works and should I use Mp4 format or not. I'm trying for example to record Guitar hero World tour some songs but when I watch those records they are lagging massively for no reasons when my computer is just fine for that game.

Any thought what might cause the problem? I'm really sorry if topic like this already exists, I'm new here and finding this was difficult.

Leave anything else I didn't mention alone. Also, record in MKV or FLV (use FLV if you only need 1 audio track). Then, remux your video.

I tried that but it's even worse, I get even more lags and files sizes are 3gb for like less than 1 minute. I just don't know what to do anymore... ( I didn't have NVENC, I have NVENCH.264 only)

My friend told me to use these settings

Under recording tab to put ''encoder = use stream encoder''
and then in streaming that I should put ''x264, CRF instead of CBR, and CRF should be 20-30''

I did CRF 30 one time and it worked perfectly. Videos were just fine. Now after few days something happened and I don't know what, but It caused massive lags upon my games. I really like this program but I feel like maybe I should just quit...

I was able to record one video without too many lags it had CBR settings and I had to lower resolution output to 720p. But quallity was really bad.

I only need 1 audio track as you mentioned, do you have any more ideas what could i changed? CRF was just working fine and suddenly it's not :/
