We are on OBS 25.0.0.8 (latest) and Windows 10. Everything was fine until we installed a new USB device and had to install it's driver. When listening to playback in OBS while recording, the background noise was severe. I uninstalled OBS (all settings too), I uninstalled the USB driver and disconnect the new USB audio source from our mixer. Then reinstalled OBS, and now I hear an occasional popping or clicking noise while recording, and the recording has same noise but lower. We have no fans, and the audio comes from a Sony CAM via it's HDMI port to a HDMI ==> USB 3 video capture device. The Sony Cam recording and it's headphone port also have no noise. Our OBS audio is 44.1kHz and video at 1920x1080p 30fps. I have read so far 2 suggestions that I intend to try:
a) put OBS audio sample rate at 48kHz.
b) Check that possibly too many USB devices can cause over-subscription to the bandwidth of the computers USB 3.0 bus. This second choice has lead me to download UsbTreeView.exe from a German developer who uses a Microsoft base source code and then added bug fixes and enhancements. I will uninstall any USB driver that is not in use and update all USB drivers. Also I will remove all USB devices as much as possible to reduce any possible internal motherboard USB bandwidth issue. I am hoping the tool can show me what devices get assigned USB 3 and what devices assigned USB 2 and below, and if devices are on different USB hubs (if we have multiple hubs).
I will also try c) change Sony back to 60fps 1920x1080 and change OBS back to match rate coming from device. Possible the slight mismatch between record source and recording might causes some issue?
Once I get back to the studio area PC, i will be trying things out and let you know what solutions I verify. Hope this helps your thinking. Please let me know if you find a solution to your issue. Thank you
