On Windows 7 the Webcam wouldn't come on until I hit the record hotkey. For some reason with my new machine and Windows 10 my Webcam is always on? Is there a way for me to get it to only come on while recording? When I'm in game it's nice to be able to see when it's actually recording from the light on the webcam. With is always on I don't know if the hotkey actually triggered it to start or stop.

Download 20.0.1 and use the current version.

Hide/show your webcam by clicking on the eye icon next to its named source in the Sources list box.

I am using the current version.Clicking the eye doesn't turn the camera off. Light on the camera still on.

Sounds like you were using OBS classic before, which had no sources active until the actual output started. It's normal that the webcam is active while OBS is open, there's nothing to be concerned about.

I can't speak for OP, but I'm trying to use my webcam's light as a "RECORDING" light. I can't do that if the light is ALWAYS on instead of when actually recording. There's no reason for the webcam to be on when not being used. I would advise against determining what others prefer or why.

That light is on when the camera is being used, regardless of where it's actually going. It's a security thing, so I would not at all be surprised if it were hard-wired in the camera itself, and that's it. No external control at all. When the camera comes out of sleep, the light turns on. Period.
