Greetings OBS community,

I want to get into streaming and I have been messing around with OBS but it seems like I need some help.
My current specs are:
AMD Phenom Quad Core
8 gigs of ram
XFX HD 7770 1 gig Graphics Card

Download speed is around 15Mbps
Upload is goes between 5 and 9Mbps

I can't seem to find the sweet spot when it comes to my bitrates or what resolution I should be streaming at. I usually get around 50 to 60fps but when I start streaming it drops a lot, usually down to 15 to 20. Could my settings in OBS be effecting my fps that much? I'm at work right now so I'm not on my computer to do any logs or anything, I figured I would go ahead and post to see what the more experienced guys have to say and I appreciate the help.

High resolution and High Framerate streaming causes a significant strain on PC's. The general sweet spot to shoot for is a 720P, 30 FPS stream at around 2500 bitrate or so. Also, make sure in OBS You don't change the encoding profile from "Veryfast" in the advanced tab. Making that any lower will greatly increase CPU usage. Without the Exact CPU model I can't really suggest anything further.

Suggested settings:
Video Bitrate: 2500 Video, 192 AAC audio.
Encoding: Resolution 1920x1080, Downscale 1.50x (1280x720) Bilinear filtering. FPS 30
Hopefully this helps you man.

Hopewithinchaos,
Thanks for the quick response, My CPU is AMD Phenom II Quad Core 2.9 ghz. Is the 1920x1080 in game resolution? Oh, the game I want to stream is WoW. I hope this information helps a little more.

It's going to be hard to stream a game like WoW on an AMD based system. The biggest boost in performance you are going to get really, is to up your encoding profile from Very Fast to Super Fast or Ultra Fast. Other than that, there isn't much you can do, other than upgrade to an Intel based system and use Quicksync, or stream using a dual PC setup.
