Volume settings / Slider changes

We are using OBS to deliver our worship services to remote members via Zoom. The input from our soundboard comes in via USB. We have to boost the signal using OBS about 600% to get it to feed Zoom to acceptable levels. That all seems to be working OK. Anything less than the 600% and our viewers say they can't hear, even with their devices turned up all the way.

We set the boost to 600% using advanced audio properties but notice if we use the slider to dial it back slightly, it reverts back to some percentage lower than 100% and we lose our signal. Should not the slider control the setting whether it be 0-100% or 0-600% depending on the range you've set?

Is this a bug within OBS or are we doing it wrong? Open to any suggestions or comments. We are all new to this sound thing so each day is a new experience and a newly learned thing.

Thanks

Paul

The behaviour is by intention. Its not advisable to go for such values. 600% means that your audio level coming in thru you usb-devices (you should mention what interface you're using and how your cabling between houses mixer and the interface is) is - at least - 15dB to weak.

Read whitepapers about things like "gain staging" https://www.izotope.com/en/search.html?q=gain staging
So proof your gain at the usb-interface or before (at mixers output). Naturally beware of clipping signal.

Then if the levels - within the digital stage of obs - are still too low, read on for hints like this

If you experience hum&static on the line, don't run into troubles like these:
