Helo guys,

whenever i try to stream, my viewers moan about having a delay about 5-6 seconds although i didnt put any delay on the stream.

is that normal? if not, what can i do to reduce the delay to a minimum?

thanks in advance,

You could try experimenting a bit with a lower bitrate and/or a different streaming server, for starters.

Yeah. 6 seconds for you to receive their message, have the video captured, composited, encoded, buffered, uploaded to your service's intake server, processed, redistributed across the backbone to a local sub-server, buffered again, downloaded by them, decoded and displayed?

That's pretty damn fast. Tell them to manage their expectations.

Some freaking people just don't understand exactly how ridiculously, insanely fast 6 seconds is for all of that work.

Just as an example:

102p, 100 Kbps... and the roundtrip still took 3.1 seconds. So, yeah... some delay is inevitable. Although it does tend to increase with high bitrates and resolutions. At a more normal resolution and bitrate, the roundtrip increased to 4 seconds.
