Video start/stop control issues

I would like to have a video start automatically when a scene is selected. I figured I would do that by having the VLC video source visible within the scene, so when the scene is selected, the source becomes visible, and the video starts. I figured I should select the option to stop video when not visible, and restart when visible. However, I noticed that the VLC source just keeps playing even when the source is not visible. I tired setting it to pause the video when not visible. Same result. No matter what setting I use, the video can only be stopped or started manually in the control bar above the sources window. Is there some trick I am missing somewhere?

I went to the VLC playback upon hearing the Windows native playback is quite wonky- which I figured was behind the initial problem of some video sources just plain not even showing up in the scenes into which I had dropped them. (The sources show in the list, but the videos do not play at all.) The odd thing is that this condition is not common to all scenes, but I cannot find a setting that does not match up.

any help or insight is greatly appreciated!
