Question / Help Video Playlist Support

Is it possible to have OBS Studio stream a video playlist?
The idea is that local video sources (Media Source) would switch automatically after each one ends.
Like a video playlist that ques up videos and plays them in order while streaming.

I have looked at Automatic Scene switching, but it relies on window capture data and I am afraid that using the computer for other tasks while streaming might mess this up.

I have looked at using VLC and creating a playlist then capturing that window. But, again, this seems to be a kludgy solution that will be prone to inadvertent failure.

Additionally, in both the VLC and Window capture modes I would assume I need to capture desktop audio to stream a complete video with picture and sound. This creates a further complication in not being able to use the computer for other tasks that have audio associated.

Ideally, a Media Source would have the ability to assign a playlist or play next media source when this source ends command. I would like to find a solution that is rock solid and internal to OBS Studio.

In searching the internet the only thing I came across was instructions for doing this in xsplit https://www.xsplit.com/broadcaster/faq/advanced/how-do-i-make-a-video-playlist
I am posting the xsplit link only for reference as it describes exactly what I want to do (the playback controls are nice, but I am only concerned with the playlist feature right now). I do NOT want to switch to xsplit.

Is this possible with OBS Studio?
Is there a plugin?

Thank you.

Harold, is there an actual source called VLC Source? Is this a Plugin? I am using OBS Studio 17.0.0 and when I go to sources I do not see a VLC Source. I have Media Source for playing local video files.

Thanks Harold, did a little digging and switched to VLC 64bit now the VLC video source shows up in my sources. I guess VLC bit version has to match OBS Studio bit version. 64 bit and 64 bit. So it looks like the answer is in using VLC as the playlist generator to loop videos into OBS. I will try this and report the progress. Sure wish it was internal to OBS. It would be great if Media Source had a playlist window.

@FADDERALL you need to install same VLC architecture as OBS Studio.

OBS Studio 64 bits ---> VLC 64 bits
OBS Studio 32 bits ---> VLC 32 bits

Yes installed both at 64bits and now VLC source shows up in add sources within OBS Studio. Works great just what I needed. Now if there was a way to add media controls to these videos.....

Hey guys. So I upgraded my RAM. Did some AVAST updates. And now I cannot add a media source. Well I can, but it doesnt do anything. I have tried media source for an MP3 lower third, and I have tried VLC Video Source with a playlist for the lower thirds. I am encoded with h256 or whatever that number is.

The videos play in all my other players. Whats odd is the example window in the properties for both media source and VLC Video Source display nothing. And then when I add the source it goes to a little red dot in the upper left corner as if it was empty and had no size information.

I have also turned off Avast to make sure it wasn't blocking OBS from loading the files. But it didn't change anything. I am at a loss. I had a motion background working previously, and now no motions graphics are working at all. You can see the little red circle in the top left of the monitor side of the workspace in the screen shot.

Please help.

Thanks,
Frank

3.x versions of vlc broke playlist support with the vlc source.

Ugh. Of course. But the Media Source is doing the same thing, and that was working a few weeks ago. I should be able to use that to play an mp4, just not with a playlist. Any idea whats keeping it from playing?

@fcarentz Use VLC Player v2.2.8 - should work well.

About the 'Media Source' - are you sure that file list compatible with the recent "concat" option? (OBS Multiplatform and Source video plugin)

@Suslik V
WIth media source I was trying to load 1 file. Just a single MP4.

Essentially I have a few social motion graphics that are about 10 seconds each. and was going to just add a media source for each one. But when I add them the red border is essentially just one dot in the upper left corner and no video plays. even on the source edit screen. The videos play in Groove, Media Player, VLC, etc... And this was happening before I updated VLC to the most recent version.
