Video is grainy / blurry.

Youtube recodes every upload. It starts with the low resolutions first, so check the quality only after Youtube has finished postprocessing and your highest resolution is available. With recoding also comes a quality loss you cannot avoid, because this is on Youtube's side.

Hi! I've just started using OBS recently and I found that when I post a video on YouTube it becomes grainy. It is grainy just a little bit in media player but is really grainy in the YouTube video.

YouTube video example: https://youtu.be/WXqHEoN2KM0
OBS log: https://obsproject.com/logs/qSAPgv8syr3ogSDq

Help is appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing grainy or blurry video quality when using OBS and uploading videos to YouTube. There could be several factors contributing to this issue. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Video Encoding Settings: Check your OBS video encoding settings to ensure they are optimized for YouTube. YouTube recommends using the H.264 video codec and AAC audio codec. Make sure you are using the appropriate bitrate and resolution settings for your intended output.
  2. Bitrate and Resolution: Ensure that you are using an appropriate bitrate and resolution for your videos. Higher bitrates and resolutions generally result in better quality, but they also require more bandwidth for streaming and may not be suitable for all internet connections. You can experiment with different settings to find a balance between quality and file size.
  3. Internet Connection: A slow or unstable internet connection can affect the quality of your video uploads. Make sure you have a stable and fast internet connection when uploading videos to YouTube. You can also try uploading the video at a time when your network is less congested to get better upload speeds.
  4. Video Export Settings: Check your video export settings in OBS to ensure that you are using appropriate settings for exporting your videos. Consider using a high-quality video format and a high bitrate when exporting your videos from OBS before uploading them to YouTube.
  5. YouTube Processing: Keep in mind that YouTube processes uploaded videos after they are uploaded. It may take some time for YouTube to finish processing and fully optimize the video for playback. The initial lower quality you see might improve as processing completes.
  6. Playback Settings: Make sure you are watching the video on YouTube at the highest available playback quality. YouTube may automatically adjust the quality based on your internet connection or the device you are using. You can manually select a higher-quality option by adjusting the playback settings on YouTube.
By checking and adjusting these settings, you should be able to improve the video quality when uploading from OBS to YouTube. If the issue persists, you can also reach out to OBS support or the OBS community forums for more specific troubleshooting assistance.
