Question / Help Video freeze in OBS using Magewell HDMI capture dongle

Hi,

I'm trying to record a presentation, but the video feed freezes in OBS. My setup is like this:
- 1 presenter laptop is connected to an HDMI splitter
- Projector is connected to HDMI splitter and shows the presentation in the classroom
- My laptop is connected to the HDMI splitter using a Magewell HDMI capture dongle

But soon after I open OBS, the video feed freezes. I've seen this post, and I've made sure that OBS is running on my nvidia card. My laptop is a Dell precision 5510.

I've tried to eliminate the HDMI splitter, and connect the presenter laptop directly to my laptop via the magewell dongle, but I get the same problem.

I've also tried connecting a camera (a sony pxw-x70) to my laptop via the magewell dongle, but the same thing happens then.

I've tried to upload the OBS logs here, but since it didn't work I've added them on pastebin. From what I can see nothing special happens in the logs. In this specific case I opened OBS, saw the videofeed, but it froze after a second or two.

I've also tried the setup with several different HDMI cables. Still, the issue persists.

Can anyone here assist me with this?

Hi. I have same problem since i bought magewell hdmi capture card(usb 3.0)

It freezes irregulary, using OBS, Xsplit, Vmix, Win 7, 8.1, 10 (I have tasted a lot.....)

I have changed new one, but I got the same problem.

Here is solutions. It happens when using laptop with 'additional graphic card'
(ex : my laptop is lenovo, HD graphics + AMD graphic card)

Laptop using Intel HD graphics(internal) normally, but when using Photoshop or Game, It operates AMD graphic card(external).

So, when laptop changing graphic card, capturing process is suddenly stops.
(In my case, only video is freezing, audio is still OKAY)

Here is solutions.

1. Do not using 'Power Saving Mode' -> It usually runs HD graphics only (internal)

2. Do not using internal graphic card -> Nvidia / AMD setting is different
(serching for 'turn off internal graphic card' or 'using external graphic card only'

I hope it helps.
