Question / Help Viability of OBS for a non-gaming talk show

In the past I have personally used OBS to stream games, but my job is currently look into starting a video podcast that's broadcasted live.

The first hurdle we ran into was bandwidth - I had previously streamed at 720p with my crappy home connection but a business will have access to higher amounts of bandwidth (e.g. 5 Mbps up).

We were looking into streaming at 1080p with 30FPS... but rather than the usual gaming-related screen capture, it would be a webcam or dedicated video recorder(s) with dedicated microphone(s). I do know that webcam usage with OBS is entirely feasible (grill streams, for instance) but is there a difference in bitrate/cpu intensiveness when it comes to an entirely webcam based show with high quality in both video/audio?

Instead of Twitch, we would probably be streaming directly to Youtube (who I believe archives live casts) where our viewers would be directly watching our content.

Thanks for any information/advice!

Webcam shows tend to be lower motion, so their bitrate requirements for higher quality end up being lower.

If you're dealing with streaming, your settings will ultimately depend on the streaming service you plan to use. With youtube, you can generally throw enough bitrate at the problem to make the stream have the quality you want up to your connection's bandwidth limit.

Overall cpu usage will be lower on a purely webcam based stream because you don't have to also render a game. Depending on your broadcast settings, you could get away with a significantly lower end machine compared to the gaming + streaming rigs.
