Question / Help Very Choppy Recordings

So this is my first time using OBS and I've figured out how to capture my game video and mic audio. I tested it out on some more basic games (Awesomenauts & Factorio) and it worked fine. Then I tried recording some game play of The Division. It was super choppy. I'm assuming i have my recording systems to high for what my system can handle, but I'm not sure.

I've attached my log. I'm just looking to get some smooth recordings. I'm sure its something I've setup wrong so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi BluesAdam, thank you for the reply.

I'm not sure which i'm using. I'm not even entirely sure what VCE or NVENC are :) But I'll take a look at my settings when I get home today!

I had a friend say that he thought it might be that I am recording to the same HD rather than a different one. I only have one HD. Could that be a large part of the cause?

Hi Suslik V! Thank you for the reply! I'm trying to use the settings recommended in that link you sent me :) I got a little lost because I didn't find a lot of the options in my settings that were in that link. I set it up the best I could and it helped me out a little, but still fairly choppy.

I couldn't find anything in my settings about...
Quality Balance: 10
Use custom x264 parameters: Enabled

I'm not sure where these settings are. Here are the settings I took some screen shots of the settings i have currently. Let me know if there are any other thoughts to help me out! Thank you!

You are totally messed up with settings...

a) changes:
Streaming tab
Custom buffer size: unchecked
Profile: main (or high, or baseline)

Recording tab
Type: Standard
Encoder: x264 (this setting opens dialog for customization where you can uncheck CBR for recordings and set up CRF)

OR

b) changes:
Streaming tab
Custom buffer size: unchecked
Profile: main (or high, or baseline)

Recording tab
Type: Standard
Encoder: (Use stream encoder) - because you already setup all settings needed for recording at the streaming tab.

If you planning to make a stream in the future, then you need to go a) , make changes to recording tab, then enable CBR for streaming tab, then up bitrate settings for streaming tab - because 1920x1080 at 1000kbps looks ugly at any preset (if source is not static image, of course), then lower the cpu preset for streaming tab until you'll get stutter in stream or encoding warnings from Studio.

Thanks for the help Suslik! I really appreciate your help with this.

I made the suggested change you listed, but now whenever I launch my game (The Division) it crashes. When I close OBS and launch the game everything runs fine. So all signs point to OBS as the problem. Is there something in the settings that were change that could have caused this? Thank you!
