i'm so angry at this experience that it will take a year of use before i forget what happened to me today - that it took a good part of an hour to find OBS-Studio-27.2.4-Full-Installer-x64.exe
Question: Why are you using such an old version of OBS Studio? I can understand reliability and add-ons which may not see any recent updates, but just about everything nowadays wants to run on more modern versions.
Now, setting that aside for a moment, to look for a particular release of OBS Studio, you will need to go to Github to pick up past releases. Your starting point is here:
https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases
At the bottom of each release, there's a link that says "Assets", which is collapsed by default. Click that to expand that tab for all the available links for that release. This is much the same for many Github repositories, so get used to this.
my downloads folder was full of source code downloads. can the github pages be any more difficult to navigate ? so this is my contribution: put the download front and center.
Learn how to read the links. At least, make sure you're in the "Releases" part of the repository so you're closer to what you want to download. Also, be sure to read the links.
In defense of the frustration of finding the release in question, I did have to go through quite a few pages, but in my just over five years' worth of streaming and numerous OBS Studio releases featuring both improvements and bugfixes, I know there have been quite a few releases.
we don't need the stinking source code.
I'll address further below.
i don't know anyone that wants the source code.
I do! I like knowing a thing or two how things work, especially if I'd like to make some contributions of my own, no matter how small.
In defense of others who don't really need the code (with... certain exceptions), I get that. That's why the coders do what they do. If you rely on them, maybe show some appreciation and, maybe more importantly, some courtesy. Y'know, just sayin'.
and if this were my favorite program on my entire workstation, it's going to take me a year before i can forget this experience and think about making a monetary contribution
Others might not have touched this one, but I did it to offer a helping hand.
However, failing that, I will have to take a stand on the treatment we have received in here, whether they be OBS Studio core developers, those who work on plugins, tools, and other ancillary software as well as those who offer help to same for those using it.
That said, on behalf of the developers and those who tinker with the code so that OBS Studio can do two things called "exist" and "improve" and for those who help those who need assistance making it work (heavens knows, I do this frequently, both giving and receiving help), I offer the following quote:
"Ingrate /n/: One who bites the hand that feeds them then complains of indigestion."

You're welcome.
