Variables in the Advanced Scene Switcher

Hi guys!
I understand that variables in Advanced Scene Switcher are cool. But I don’t understand anything anymore.
Please explain:
1. What are variables? What's changing there? Why can a variable's value be text and not just numeric?
2. How can you simplify a macro using variables? The example from the wiki is completely incomprehensible.
Thank you!

  • What are variables?
Variables are "placeholders" which can be used throughout various places in the plugin.
They are mostly useful in complex macro setups.
  • What's changing there?
The most recent update introduced the "Variable tab" in the settings menu of the plugin, which makes it easier to work with a lot of variables.
I am not sure what the background of that question is, so I apologize if this is not what you were asking.
  • Why can a variable's value be text and not just numeric?
The "text" can also be interpreted as a number depending on what the context is in which the variable is used.
  • How can you simplify a macro using variables?
It depends a lot on what you are trying to do, so I cannot really give a concrete example.
Introducing variables everywhere might not necessarily make things simpler.
Very generally speaking, it makes sense to use variables if you are doing the "same thing" in multiple places just with one minor change.
  • The example from the wiki is completely incomprehensible.
    Sorry about that!
Just a short note:
It is best to ask questions about a particular plugin the plugin's discussion thread:
