V8 to MP4 Recording - Green Static lines

Hi,

I'm using an old Sony Handy Cam to play V8 tapes and record them using OBS and an EasyCAP stick. I'm new to OBS but after watching a few tutorials I managed to get good quality MP4 from these old V8 tapes. However, a few tapes start displaying green, static distortions for a period of time and then continue in high quality again. When connecting the same cam corder on my tv, I don't see these distortions so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the camcorder or tapes.

Any idea what could cause these sudden distortions?

Most likely the EasyCAP device. Those are extremely low-end capture devices, and they tend to bug out very easily.

Thanks man,

Any recommendations for a better device? Or do you recommend literally buying the same device and hoping for better luck next time?

I wouldn't buy another EasyCap, but I'm in the 'buy once, cry once' camp.

As per Technology Connections' video, I'd buy an upscaler device to convert the output of the camera to HDMI, then use an HDMI capture device... they're a lot more common these days than analog, and there are even cheap ones that work really well that you can find all over eBay. Plus at that point you have versatility in case you want to record other sources, or play analog video back to a TV that doesn't have an upscaler.
