Using DeckLink Mini Recorder (PCIe)

Hello,
I have been using OBS for about a year now. It is running on a pretty beefy gaming computer and we are using it for live streaming via YouTube. I have recently installed a BlackMagic DeckLink Mini Recorder (PCIe) so that I can capture an HDMI output form an Extron Video switcher. I have followed other's advice and have selected the BlackMagic source. When I am capturing the feed from another windows desktop computer (through the switcher) everything works great. However, when I have tried my MacBook Pro (Big Sur) and Microsoft Surface (Win 10) the capture window for that feed behaves very erratic as if it is receiving a bad signal (I don't know how to describe it other than what appears in the window looks scrambled). Both the MacBook and Surface are connected via dongle (USB-c to HDMI). Their output appears fine on the projector in the room but not in OBS. I have also posted to the BlackMagic board in case it is hardware related. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Joey

Update: If I set the resolution from 1080p to 1080i it works on the Mac. Is there a way to make it work with 1080p?

Update... I assumed I had fixed it but then I opened powerpoint to display a presentation (one of the main purposes of this setup) and it reverted to the previous behavior.

So... apparently its software specific on the source computer??

Desktop running at 720P via display port to hdmi dongle into Extron video switcher showing PPT presentations just fine
MacBook Pro running at 720P and 1080i via USBc dongle to html into Extron video switcher shows desktop fine and keynote fine; however it will not show PPT fine.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Very strange issue, but not far off from mine. I honestly think OBS needs to update this because our decklink sucks on OBS too. We bought a Decklink Duo 2 (ProPresenter 7 outputs 2 feeds to our switcher for key and fill, one for the projector, and one input from our ATEM switcher) and no matter what settings, fps, you name it, OBS will not work right on it. The current solution for this past Sunday was Stream labs OBS. It's so much worse than OBS studio but it's the only way to use the decklink I have come up with besides Pro7s stream service. My issue is on 1080i50 (honestly don't understand the PAL fps but it's a pain to change it so whatever) it will output 1080i normally but the feed itself is a mess of like 480i or something ridiculous.

On the left is OBS feed, on the right is the ProPresenter video input (Both 1080i50 from the Decklink)

sweet rig btw, 2080 Super looks mighty fine with stock shortages

have you look that the Decklink has full PCI-E access so the card can full use the bandwitch ?
e.g disable all not used SATA Ports in Bios/UEFI.......
Make sure to select the YUV2 color format in the source settings
try to disable the buffer

and start obs as admin
Ill try that, its a custom built so that should be easy to change, I also remoted in and updated to OBS beta which mentioned they fixed alot of bugs. I will be going up there today and can test that.

welp, it was interlacing. I had it set to "Discard" on deinterlacing which really messed up the footage. I'll have to switch my ATEM to use progressive most likely.

Update and alternative solution: I scrapped the Decklink card and went with the Mirabox external USB capture card. This item is working flawlessly with OBS. You can get it on Amazon. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Sometimes the best solution is "another" solution.

sorry for the late response, but yeah I agree. We have a professional ATEM switcher (hence the name "deck"link for stream"deck") and the decklink is basically required.
