UPDATE #3- It now looks like the problem is caused by using remote desktop to access my HTPC. Using it directly allows OBS to work properly. See my third post on how to tweak the remote desktop audio settings.

My setup is a Win 10 Pro 64 home theater PC. I use a Roku box connected via HDMI and have connected a capture box (3 so far) between it and my TV. My Windows version is 10.0.17134. My OBS 64 bit version is 23.1.0.

My system is a Gigabyte AX370 Gaming rev. 1.0 MB, Ryzen 7-1700 CPU, 16GB ram, Nvidia GT 730 video card, SSD for system drive, multiple hard drives for storage. Under device manager I have Realtek and Nvidia high definition audio.

I have tried 3 HDMI/USB capture boxes (a Mirabox, a Flint-LX, and now an Elikliv) and have had the same problem with all of them- no audio. The sound plays fine on the TV, but when I record I have no sound. The video works properly. Other local programs I use like MCE Buddy process audio and video perfectly. All of these boxes installed easily, and all show up as a camera and also under sound/video in device manager.

One of the vendors tried to help, but still no results. One thing they suggested was under the video capture device options to use direct sound and then "custom audio". When I first tried it, I did not have that option.

I did briefly connect the Flint box to my Win 7-64 laptop and got audio, so it appears this is a Win 10 problem.

What I've tried since then was uninstalling the other audio devices. That allowed the custom audio option to show, but now the only option I have there is "FLINT-CA" from the old box. Even checking that results in no sound.

I went through and deleted old devices such as the Flint that was still showing up in device manager. Yet it till shows up under OBS.

Here's my last log URL from this morning:

I appreciate any help on this problem.

UPDATE-
I went into the system BIOS and disabled the high definition audio there. Once I did that, the video capture box showed up as a microphone and I was able to use the custom audio box. Now all I have under sound/video in device manager is the capture box and NVIDIA high def audio.

A couple of hours later I tried to record some video, and I was back to square one. No audio, the custom audio box has gone away again. I checked my bios and it must have reset- I did UG to the latest version while I was there, and again disabled the HD audio.

I used a program called device cleaner to get rid of non-existant devices. Realtek audio was there again, so I dumped it. Even after doing all of this, still no audio. I unplugged the capture box and removed all of it's appearances in device cleaner. Still no audio. No question this is a Win 10 problem.

Update #3. I use remote desktop (RDT) to access my HTPC. Apparently that is the issue. When I access it directly using my TV with the mouse & keyboard everything works as it should. I can see the audio capture device that way, but using RDT it disappears.

I'll do some reading on this & see if there is a workaround.

Update- Found this helpful post:
https://social.technet.microsoft.co...mote-desktop-remote-audio-?forum=w7itpromedia
The issue is RDT relies upon a sound device called "Remote audio" on the HTPC, and apparently that cancels out any of the other sound devices there.

Since my laptop used to access is a Win 7 machine, it was applicable. I went into the RDT settings- Local Resources- Configure remote audio settings, then clicked the "Settings" button. My machine had "Remote audio playback" checked as "Play on this computer" (Win 7). I changed it to "Play on remote computer" (Win 10).

I'm capturing a show right now to see if this works. If so, I won't need to do any more updates here. :)
