NVENC is a separate part of your GPU core, that normally sits idle unless you're encoding video. Using NVENC will not impact your gameplay performance.
Do not set the GPU to 1, using a second GPU for encoding will do no good whatsoever, and will actually INCREASE system load, as all assets will have to be copied across the PCIe bus instead of simply left in place on your primary GPU.
