This is my first time using OBS, and I've been through the manual both in the software and through the Twitch help areas. I'm trying to set a Global Source to stream Minecraft - specifically FTB modpacks. (Using Windows 10, if that makes any difference.) When I click the 'Global Sources' button in the lower portion of the screen, I get a window with Add/Remove/Rename/Properties/Import and OK as buttons, and a list on the left with my attempts at creating sources. I have tried Game Capture, Window Capture and Monitor Capture. (Game Capture because it looked obvious, Monitor Capture because I saw a help topic that suggested that Open GL games needed to use Monitor Capture, and Window Capture because I was running out of ideas.)
If I hit 'OK', I go back to the main screen, but the Global Sources list there is blank. Attempting to stream brings up a dialog stating 'You haven't added any sources! Are you sure you want to stream a black screen?' Previewing the stream gives me - you guessed it - a black screen. One other thing to mention - I am not using a laptop. Saw that thread too. :D
