So I have no idea what exactly happened, but I've been having a LOT of trouble with getting OBS to record Minecraft.
For the last year it had been working fine; I had been running the game windowed (not fullscreen) and I had been using window capture to record it (As opposed to game capture, more on that in a bit) and it worked great. Solid frame rate and quality, all was good. However recently while I was doing some tests with a friend to help him record, window capture just stopped working. Instead of properly recording, as soon as I start recording OBS captures the first frame and only that frame. Audio works fine, but the video is stuck on that single frame.
It happened when I had switched from my streaming profile to my recording profile, both of which worked fine in the past. Now whenever I try to record using Window Capture, it just gets stuck on a single frame and I've spent HOURS searching around and trying to figure what the problem is and nothing seems to work.
As for game capture, it can record video but it has this issue where the screen will flicker every few frames and distort the video and it just looks awful. So I can't use that as an alternative to window capture. (I've spent about just as much time trying to solve that problem as well)
And I highly doubt my computer isn't strong enough to record and run games, because I can record other games just fine. At this point I'm guessing there's some strange compatibility issue either with Minecraft or my computer hardware that's causing this to happen.
So to summarize:
- I'm trying to record Minecraft Videos, not stream
- I'm able to record other games just fine, Minecraft however gives me issues
- I'm running the game in windowed mode, not fullscreen
- Window capture used to work, but suddenly stopped working (This was on the same version of OBS and Minecraft)
- When using window capture OBS gets stuck on a single frame and records only that
- When using game capture the recording periodically flickers and looks horrible
- My computer should be strong enough to record and play games. I've been able to do both and host a server at the same time in the past.
