Question / Help Two questions about Resolutions/CPU Usage and Global Sources

Hi

My native screen resolution is 1680x1050, and that's the resolution I run my games in.
Question about the Video section under options in OBS.
I was wondering if there is an advantage or disadvantage in regards to CPU usage if I use option 2 instead of option 1?
I am currently using option 1.
Option 1 - Base resolution: 1680x1050 - Resolution Downscale: 1.50 : 1120x700
Option 2 - Base resolution: 1280x720 - Resolution Downscale: None/0 : 1280x720

Second question:
When I set up a new game, I first add the game to global sources as a game capture and then under sources add it as a global source.
Is there any point in doing it like that, or can I just add the game as a game capture directly under sources.

Fixed downscaling steps should be preferred since they are optimized to provide better quality.
If you don't know if you need to use global sources, you probably don't need to use them.

Good questions, Id like to know the answer as well.

@Grimio...fixed downscaling steps? does that mean the 1.5 downscaling is better, or the 0 downscaling?

If you want to stream at a resolution lower than your sources, use the 1.5/2.0/... downscaling.

You should use your native res and then use OBS to downscale with the pulldown box. There is almost no performance hit associated with downscaling in OBS over using a native (downscaled) resolution.

Global sources shouldn't be used unless they're part of multiple scenes (if I remember right), as OBS loads them all the time. I may be mistaken on this though. Global sources are to make it easy to switch from scene to scene and set things up. I don't use them.

Global sources should really only be used on things like webcams and capture cards anyway. Other sources load up instantaneously when switching scenes, and game capture can sometimes have issues when being added as a global source.
